How to Use Google Analytics

Many of us have our own websites nowadays and there are millions of websites out there, and tracking how people are approaching to your site and what’s performing well is a must for being competitive in the online market so don’t worry because Google Analytics will help you to manage a site to track and analyze this data. This is a powerful and free tool and has an ability to answer a variety of questions for a wide range of users. You can also analyze which keywords resonate with visitors. Here’s how you can use Google Analytics.

Getting Started With Google Analytics

•    Adding The Code

Once you have set up your Google Analytics Account, you’ll need to add the code on your website. You need to set your profile for the site you’d like to track and the step-by-step process will generate a unique script that you can add.
If you are using content management system of blogging platform like WordPress, Blogger or Tumblr, you only need to add the code once to your template or theme. The following theme will travel the code in every post and page you create.
You have to implement the code on each page manually if your site is custom-built, or speak to your Web developer about how the site generates content.
You need to copy the JavaScript code from Analytics and paste it just above the </head> tag in your page or template.
•    How To Measure Your Site

When you finished connecting your site to Google Analytics, just hit the “View Report” on the initial screen. This will bring you the main Dashboard. You will see the following data on the left column:
• Visitors: This will show how many people are coming to your site, including their location geographically, the language they speak, and how many time they visit your site and what browsers and computers they use to get here.
• Traffic Sources: This will tell you how people got ot your site. You will be also able to track which sites link to your page.
• Content: It will tell you the specific pages on your site. It may tell you which pages are popular.
• Goals: you will find data about the desired actions form users, including downloads, registrations, and purchases.
• Ecommerce: This tab is for those people who are selling items on your sites as it carries all merchandise, transaction and revenue activity information.

•    How To Set Up Dashboard
google analyticsThe main Dashboard will give you the summary of your site’s data. You will have the power to customize the dashboard to show which reports you decide you want to see upfront. Click on the type of report you want to see from the left column and hit “Add to Dashboard”.
•    How To Adjust Time Range

It is necessary to adjust the date range in the upper right hand corner before analyzing information from your reports. It defaults to a month-long range, ending the day prior to the day you’re viewing the report. Just click on the data range box and a calendar will pop up. Quarterly, weekly, daily are the options to adjust the time range.
To compare the date ranges, just click “Comparison” below the “Date Range”.
•    Tables And Visualizations

Linear graphs are present to show the measurement, pageviews, and conversion rates. You can visualize the table in a pie chart or a bar graph by clicking the icons just above and to the right of the scorecards.
•    How To Share Reports
An email button is given at the top of all reports through which you can send the email immediately. You can export it as a PDF, XML, CSV or TSV file.
